Midweek Preview: Towson Tigers

Maryland returns to “The Bob” to host Towson in its final home midweek game of the 2025 season.

The Dirty Terps are in a bit of a rut entering Tuesday’s matchup against the Tigers.

Maryland has alternated wins with losses for each of its last nine games. With less than a month left in the regular season, the Terps sit at 18-23 overall with a 5-13 record in Big Ten play

Here’s a look at the visitors ahead of Tuesday’s midweek.

Towson Tigers (13-27, 5-10 CAA)

Last Season

The Tigers went 15-39 with a 5-20 record in the CAA last season. Towson failed to qualify for the CAA tournament.

Maryland played the Tigers as a non-conference opponent last year, beating Towson 13-8 on the road. That matchup was a big one for Michael Iannazzo. The Terps’ designated hitter that day drove in three runs on three hits.

Unfortunately, the now sophomore won’t be available for the Terps this time around, though. Iannazzo continues to recover from an injury that he suffered against Virginia on March 11.

This Season

The Tigers are still struggling to find their footing in 2025.

At this point in the season, Towson appears unlikely to qualify for the conference tournament for the second straight season. A recent slump has really cemented the Tigers’ fate, as Towson enters this matchup on a five-game slide, including four losses in the CAA.

Hitters to Watch

Junior catcher Brian Heckelman is in the midst of a breakout season for the Tigers. Heckelman held sub-.240 batting averages in each of his first two collegiate campaigns, but currently leads Towson with a .362 average in 38 games.

Fellow junior Max D’Alessandro provides the power in Townson’s lineup. The outfielder is the only qualified Towson hitter with an OPS over 1.000. He also leads the Tigers with eight long balls — double the number of homers that any other Towson hitter has — this season.

Pitchers to Watch

Redshirt senior Nate Nabholz is Towson’s premier pitcher for 2025. The righty works exclusively out of the bullpen, but is 3-0 with a 2.18 ERA and 26 strikeouts in just 33 innings of work this season.

No other pitcher on Towson’s staff, starter or reliever, has an ERA below 5.00 in 2025.

Probable Starters

Other Notable Points

Every other home midweek this year has started at 4 p.m., but with spring weather finally present in College Park, first pitch for Tuesday’s matchup is set for 6 p.m.

The final midweek home game against an in-state rival usually draws a pretty good crowd at “The Bob,” as well. Expect a lively atmosphere for this one before the Terps play a crucial weekend series against Nebraska.
