With the Big Ten Baseball Tournament getting underway from Omaha on Tuesday, the conference released its list of award-winners from the 2025 regular season. Four Terps — Alex Calarco, Chris Hacopian, Kyle McCoy, and Jacob Orr — earned various honors as part of this year’s selection.
Let’s see how each guy etched themselves amongst the conference’s elite names this season.
Alex Calarco (Sr. Catcher) — First Team All-Big Ten
Alex Calarco was Maryland’s lone representative on this year’s Big Ten first team, largely due to his scorching start to the season.
The switch-hitting catcher mashed just four homers in 2024. He eclipsed that mark in Maryland’s fifth game of the 2025 season. A 12-RBI weekend against Western Carolina in late February earned him the Golden Spikes National Player of the Week.
Calarco was also the first Terp to reach double-digit home runs this year — a feat he accomplished less than a month into the season when he went yard against UCLA on March 8.
In his second season with the Terps, Calarco ultimately finished with a .287 batting average, 1.044 OPS, and 19 home runs, all of which were significant improvements upon his 2024 campaign. The durable Calarco impressively posted those numbers while starting all 56 games this season — the vast majority of which were behind the plate after catcher Devin Russell went down with an injury before the season.
Chris Hacopian (So. Infielder) — Second Team All-Big Ten
For the second time in as many seasons, Chris Hacopian finds himself on the All-Big Ten Second Team.
Extremely lofty expectations were placed on Hacopian after the infielder set multiple freshman records during the 2024 season. Some of Hacopian’s cumulative stats were dinged after missing a few games early in the season, but the sophomore ultimately outdid himself in 2025.
Hacopian finished the campaign with a team-leading .375 batting average (third-best among conference qualifiers) and a remarkable .502 on-base clip (also third-best among qualifying Big Ten hitters).
The sophomore unsurprisingly led qualifying Terps batters in hits (72) and OPS (1.158) while striking out just 19 times in 249 plate appearances.
Kyle McCoy (R-So. Left-Handed Pitcher) — Third Team All-Big Ten
Inconsistent pitching was a significant issue for the Terps throughout the 2025 season, but ace Kyle McCoy delivered virtually every time he stepped on the mound.
After missing the 2024 campaign while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, McCoy tossed 84 innings this year — freshman Logan Hastings was the only other Maryland pitcher to throw over half of that total.
McCoy also racked up a team-leading 71 strikeouts with a 1.33 WHIP. The lefty’s 3.32 ERA was sixth-best among Big Ten pitchers as well.
The third-year pitcher is now receiving buzz for the upcoming draft, following his dominant return to the mound this past season.
Jacob Orr (Sr. Utility) — Big Ten Sportsmanship Award
Every squad in the Big Ten has one player receive a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, and for Maryland, that honor went to Jacob Orr for the second year in a row.
As he’s made a habit of doing, the senior once again played his way into the Maryland starting lineup this season following an impressive start to the campaign.
Orr hit exactly .300 this season, with seven home runs and a team-leading 18 doubles. He also provided a reliable glove, splitting time in the infield and outfield throughout the campaign.
