Series Preview: Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns

Maryland will hit the road this weekend to face the University of Louisiana in a three-game series. This is the second time these teams have faced each other in the history of both programs.

The Dirty Terps are coming off a 16-3 victory in their home-opener against Georgetown on Tuesday and a 2-1 series victory against UNC-Wilmington last weekend. In his home debut, freshman infielder Ty Kaunas recorded four RBIs in a 2-for-6 outing.

The fifth inning was a scoring surge for Maryland, tallying nine runs. Kaunas set the inning off with a double to left field bringing in two runs, followed by a two-run home run from redshirt freshman Ryan Costello.

Georgetown replaced freshman pitcher Max Whitmer for junior Jack Volo to stop the Dirty Terps– but they were not successful. Maryland recorded a hit-by-pitch and three walks which resulted in another run being brought in.

Junior David Mendez reached second base on an error from the Hoyas which brought in three more runs for the Dirty Terps. The inning closed out with junior Brayden Martin driving one to center field, bringing in Mendez for the ninth run.

After that offensive explosion, Maryland is looking for more in Lafayette.
