Maryland Brings the Bats Out in 21-4 Blowout Win Against Wagner

Twelve Maryland players reached home plate during Saturday’s 17-point blowout win against Wagner at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium in College Park.

Maryland (6-4) won game two against Wagner (1-7) with a final score of 21-4, marking the Dirty Terps’s biggest blowout win of the 2026 season and being their highest-scoring game of the season so far. Maryland also won the series against Wagner after game two, adding to its previous win against the Seahawks in game one of the series on Friday.

“I think we just came with the same idea,” Martin said about Maryland’s performance in game 2. “Everybody came out together and worked hard. On defense we were just able to make the big plays.

The Dirty Terps dominated from the beginning when infielder Ryan Costello hit an RBI single to score outfielder Brayden Martin, giving Maryland a 1-0 lead, in the first.

Designated hitter Paul Jones II then hit a three run homer to score himself, shortstop Ty Kaunas, and Costello, making the score 4-0 in favor of the Dirty Terps.

Wagner fought back in the top of the second when Seahawks designated hitter Omar Carreras scored from a bases loaded walk. Seahawks infielder Matt Sutera then scored on catcher Andrew Marquis’s sacrifice fly to cut the Dirty Terps lead to 4-2.

But Maryland responded by having a five run inning in the bottom of the second. Third baseman Jackson Sirois scored first, on a Kaunas sacrifice fly, giving the Dirty Terps a 5-2 lead.

Then, Costello went to the plate and hit a grand slam home run to give Maryland a seven run lead, and make the score 9-2 in favor of the Dirty Terps.

Maryland scored another run in the bottom of the third when outfielder Aden Hill scored on a fielder’s choice with the Dirty Terps now having a 10-2 lead.

Wagner wasn’t giving up though. Center fielder Lukas Torres and shortstop Nicholas Mazzotta both scored at the top of the fifth for the Seahawks.

Maryland, however, was not satisfied with a 10-4 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, and scored three more runs thanks to outfielder Jordan Crosland’s two run homer and Kaunas’s RBI double to score Martin, with Maryland leading 13-4.

The Dirty Terps were still hungry for runs in the sixth, and they added two more with back-to-back RBI singles from Crosland and Martin to score Hill and infielder Michael Iannazzo, with Maryland taking a 15-4 lead.

Maryland continued to embarrass Wagner by having its best scoring inning in the seventh, and added four more runs. The Dirty Terps scored from catcher Rylen Stockton’s RBI single causing infielder David Mendez to tag home. Infielder Colin Gibbs’s walk-in RBI to score Costello. Crosland’s hit-by-pitch RBI to score Stockton. And Martin’s sacrifice fly to score Hill.

At the end of the seventh the Dirty Terps were leading 19-4.

Infielder Parker Corbin and catcher Franklin Pichardo Jr. both reached home in the bottom of the eighth making the score 21-4, and helping the Dirty Terps continue their Everest sized distance against Wagner.

“It’s baseball man,” Maryland head coach Matt Swope said about his team in the series against Wagner, “You win some, you lose some, and It’s really, really hard to sweep. We built some momentum last week and it was a little tough, but we balanced back,”

Maryland will try to go for the series sweep in game three on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tune into MBN where Daniel Stein and Peter Kelly will be on call.
