Midweek Preview: Delaware Blue Hens

The Dirty Terps enter the second half of the home-and-home with Delaware on a four-game win streak that began with Maryland’s wild 15-14 walkoff win over the Blue Hens on Tuesday.

The walkoff magic continued into Friday, where Maryland got ninth inning heroics from Jordan Crosland to secure a 10-9 win in the series opener against Wagner before cruising to dominant victories over the Seahawks on Saturday and Sunday to polish off the sweep.

Maryland, now back over .500 at 6-4, hits the road to play against the feisty Delaware squad that pushed it to the brink just a week ago in College Park. Here’s what to expect from the Blue Hens this week.

Delaware Blue Hens (5-7)

Last Season

Delaware went 28-25 in its final season as a member of the CAA, going 12-15 in conference play and missing out on the CAA tournament in its final year.

The Terps and Blue Hens split the 2025 season series, with each team winning on the opponent’s home field.

This Season

Maryland and Delaware played just one week ago at “The Bob,” a 15-14 walkoff victory for the Dirty Terps. Paul Jones II delivered the decisive RBI in that matchup, beating the Blue Hens’ defensive shift to ground a single just out of the infield and score Brayden Martin from third.

But that walkoff win appears to have shifted both teams’ seasons.

Maryland went on to sweep Wagner in its weekend series while Delaware, which was at 1-7 after that loss, rattled off four straight wins of its own to claw back to a 5-7 record.

The Blue Hens beat La Salle on Wednesday before a weekend sweep over Rider following the loss to Maryland. Delaware is currently undefeated in Newark, holding a 5-0 record at Bob Hannah Stadium.

Hitters to Watch

Despite only hitting .200 for the season, sophomore outfielder Noah Burroughs went wild against the Terps in the first matchup.

Burroughs went 3-for-5 with two grand slams against Maryland. The eight-RBI outing is the single-game high for any Blue Hen hitter this season.

Aside from Burroughs, the Terps still need to contain Evan Bouldin.

The senior infielder leads Delaware with a .370 average and three home runs. He went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and a solo home run in last week’s game.

Pitchers to Watch

The only Blue Hen who didn’t surrender a run the first time these teams squared off was Jake Marchesano. The freshman right-hander tossed 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Delaware, keeping Maryland off the board for the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

He pitched most recently against Rider on Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits in his three innings against the Broncs. Those were the first runs Marchesano surrendered in 2026.

Other Notable Points

This game could get moved. Inclement weather already forced the first half of the home-and-home to move from Newark to College Park and the rain may force plans to change again.

It’s expected to be very soggy in Delaware and the game could move to Wednesday afternoon. If it does not, expect the weather to be a major story in this matchup.
