Maryland (17-21, 4-11 Big Ten) is making the trek to Indiana for a three-game weekend series against the Hoosiers.
The Terps will lean on their momentum from Tuesday’s 10-3 midweek victory over Mount St. Mary’s. Conversely, the Hoosiers have lost three of their last four and are desperate to turn the tide against a Terps squad that’s struggled in conference play this season.
The weekend’s slate holds significance for both sides.
Indiana can vastly strengthen its Big Ten tournament chances with a series victory. Maryland, on the other hand, continues to be on the outside looking in. The Terps need a winning weekend to put themselves back in contention for a conference postseason spot.
With those implications established, let’s take a look at Indiana.
Indiana Hoosiers 20-17 (10-8 Big Ten)
Last Season
The Hoosiers are coming off an impressive 2024 campaign, finishing the season with a 33-26-1 record overall, while going 15-9 in conference.
Indiana fell to Nebraska — the eventual Big Ten champions — in the conference tournament semifinals. The Hoosiers suffered a similar fate in the Knoxville regional, where they lost to Tennessee — the eventual national champion — and Southern Mississippi.
This Season
Past the halfway mark of the 2025 season, Indiana is sitting above .500 — albeit, not comfortably.
The last month has been erratic, with a few stretches of consecutive wins and losses. The Hoosiers have scored a host of big wins during that time, but that’s been coupled with many close losses.
Indiana enters this weekend at seventh place in the Big Ten.
Hitters to Watch
D1 Baseball, Perfect Game, and Baseball America all selected junior outfielder Devin Taylor as the Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year. Their unanimous pick has lived up to his billing.
The projected first-round MLB Draft pick has been spectacular at the plate this season with a slash line of .365/.481/.662; he sits in the top two on the Hoosiers roster in each of the three categories among qualified hitters.
Taylor is second on the team in home runs and RBIs at 11 and 41, respectively. He’s also a monster on the basepaths, swiping a team-leading seven bags in 10 attempts.
Redshirt sophomore Korbyn Dickerson has also been terrific this year. Slashing .350/.409/.712, he also leads the team in home runs and RBIs with 15 and 58, respectively. With 116 total bases on the year, be on the lookout for Dickerson to be on base multiple times per game this series.
Pitchers to watch
Redshirt senior Cole Gilley has been the undisputed ace of the Hoosiers’ pitching staff. In 41.2 innings, he is sporting a 7-1 record with a 3.02 ERA and a team high 55 strikeouts. His .186 opponent batting average will likely make him a tough matchup for the Terrapin offense.
Graduate student Drew Buhr has been Indiana’s most consistent arm out of the bullpen. With a 2.29 ERA and two saves in 19.2 innings, Buhr is the Hoosiers’ go-to man in high-leverage situations.
