Rankings update: Week of 3/28

The Terrapins (11-12) remain unranked after giving up two out of three games to the Iowa Hawkeyes in their first Big Ten series of the season. They did however manage to crack their midweek losing streak in a 10-9 win over the Liberty Flames at home on Tuesday. The Terps haven’t been ranked yet this season, but they have received votes in the USA Today coaches poll.

Coming up this week, the Terps will face VCU on Tuesday and Wednesday and High Point over the weekend, neither of whom are ranked. None of the teams the Terps will face down the road found a spot above 30 this week. Last week, Michigan was the only nationally ranked Big Ten team, but they have since dropped out.

Rankings Update: Week of 3/21

Despite a series win this past weekend against previously 23-ranked Cal St. Fullerton, the Terps remain unranked across all polls. Maryland has not been ranked this season. However, the Terps did receive two votes in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. Other notables receiving votes in the poll include non-conference opponents Alabama (49, leading vote-getter), ECU (30), Bryant (10) and Cal St. Fullerton (9). Future Big Ten opponents Michigan State (27) and Michigan (13) received votes as well.

Maryland (9-10), does have opponents that have cracked the top 25 in other polls. ECU remains ranked in the D1baseball.com poll, coming in at 19th. Cal St. Fullerton dropped out of D1baseball’s Top 25, and Alabama was considered as well. The NCBWA rankings are similar, ranking Fullerton 27th, with many of the Terps’ non-conference opponents receiving votes.

The Terps play four games this week. The first is a mid-week game against Liberty on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Then, Maryland travels to the University of Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes and kick off conference play. The Terps went 2-2 overall on their West Coast road trip, but won the last two games, taking a two-game winning streak into the week.

Rankings Update: Week of 03/14

The Terps are coming off a solid series win over Bryant University – but it wasn’t impressive enough to convince any pollers among the collegiate baseball community. The Terps are currently unranked in every poll as they sit below .500 with a 7-8 mark. USA Today, the one site where Maryland was receiving votes, had not updated its poll for a month until now. The Terps are no longer there.

One upcoming opponent on the West Coast tour is Cal State Fullerton. The Titans are ranked 24 on the NCBWA Poll and 23 on the D1Baseball.com Poll. The Bryant Bulldogs are receiving votes on the NCBWA, but are not ranked. The Terps’ first Big 10 opponent in the Iowa Hawkeyes is unranked in all polls. In fact, there isn’t one Big 10 team inside the top ten across all of the polls.

As of now, the Terps will have to wait until the final series of the year for their first ranked Big 10 opponent – the Michigan State Spartans.

Rankings Update: Week of 3/7

After three weeks of play, the Terps are .500 on the season  (5-5) and remain unranked across the five collegiate baseball polls. Maryland did receive votes on the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, but that list has not been updated since the original preseason ranking.

Cal St. Fullerton, Maryland’s opponent next weekend, remained at 23 in the D1baseball.com rankings, while East Carolina, who defeated the Terps yesterday, remained at 16. The two teams are ranked 22 and 25 in the NCBWA rankings, respectively. Fullerton, however, is not ranked in the Baseball America poll, but Alabama did climb to 23, with ECU at 25. In the Collegiate Baseball poll, Alabama is ranked 24th and ECU 28th.

Other than the Titans, Crimson Tide and Pirates, none of Maryland’s 2016 opponents are currently ranked.

Rankings Update: Week of 2/29/16

The Terps went 2-1 on the week to bring their record to 3-3. Unsurprisingly, the Terps still find themselves on the outside looking in to the top 25 across all five collegiate polls. However, Maryland did once again receive votes in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, receiving the most votes of any Big Ten team. The Terps will face Delaware tomorrow and then Tennessee, Southeastern Louisiana and East Carolina this weekend in the 13th Annual Keith LeClair Classic. Southeastern Louisiana received votes in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, and ECU is ranked in three of the five polls, and as high as 16th (D1baseball.com). Click the links below to see the full polls.

Preseason Rankings Update: Maryland on the Outside Looking In

Following back-to-back 40-win seasons, the Terps find themselves unranked in three out of the five polls to start the 2016 season. Maryland is ranked 27th in the NCBWA Top-30 and 28th in Collegiate Baseballs Top-40. Additionally, the Terps were picked to finish second in the Big Ten by conference coaches and picked to win the Big Ten by D1baseball.com.
