Maryland’s bullpen pitched five and a third innings of scoreless relief to hold down an 8-3 win over the Richmond Spiders (6-6) Wednesday night at Harford CC in Bel Air, Md.
Ryan Selmer, Taylor Bloom and Jared Price struck out 10 Spiders and allowed only one hit and one walk over their 5.1 innings of relief. Selmer (1-0) earned the win after stranding five Richmond baserunners.
Maryland trailed 3-1 in the third when left fielder Tim Lewis and freshman first baseman Kevin Biondic delivered run-scoring extra base hits to tie the game. The go-ahead run scored in the fourth run when Richmond SS Tyler Beckwith couldn’t handle a Kevin Martir chopper, allowing Kevin Smith to score the unearned Terrapin run.
Maryland added a three spot in the seventh inning to put the game away, highlighted by a Jose Cuas RBI single and a Tim Lewis RBI double.
All in all, Lewis finished with a pair of RBI doubles. Cuas had three hits and an RBI while Biondic chipped in with a double, triple, run and two RBIs. Brandon Lowe also had two hits.
Maryland will be in action again Friday afternoon as the Terps (9-4) take on Princeton (1-6) beginning at 3:40pm right here on MBN.
