LHP Jimmy Reed (’13, STL) was promoted to Triple-A Memphis on July 2 and made his first start the following day. The Gaithersburg native will pitch for the Redbirds in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Nashville tonight at 6:05pm ET. The game can be watched on MiLB.tv. Reed has already been promoted twice this season. He went 6-3 with a 2.18 ERA over 13 starts between High-A Palm Beach and Double-A Springfield before getting the call to Memphis. He is now the closest to becoming the third Terp in the Major Leagues.
RHP Kevin Mooney (’15, WSH) was one of the final Maryland players to sign from this year’s draft class, but has settled in nicely in the New York-Penn League (Single-A). Pitching for the Auburn Doubledays in upstate New York, Mooney has allowed only four hits through his first six innings of work.
Also in A-ball, RHP Jake Stinnett (’14, CHC) has bounced back nicely after a very difficult beginning to his season. Over his last three starts, Stinnett has gone undefeated with a 3.21 ERA for South Bend, lowering his season ERA from 6.02 to 5.14. He’s also lowered his opponents batting average by 32 points over that span.
LHP Adam Kolarek (’10, NYM) is on a similar trajectory as Stinnett for Double-A Binghamton. The lefty from Baltimore has not allowed a run in his last 8 outings, lowering his ERA by almost two full points in the past month. On the season, the 26-year-old has held opponents to a .239 average and has walked only 14 batters in 41 innings.
Of the five Terps in rookie ball, OF LaMonte Wade (’15, MIN) has been making the most noise so far. Through 13 games, Wade is slugging .383 with 7 RBIs and has drawn five walks for the Elizabethton Twins.
Other Maryland stat lines in Rookie ball (AVG/OBP/SLG):
C Kevin Martir (’15, HOU): 10 G, .200/.317/.229 with 5 RBIs for the Greeneville Astros (Appalachian League)
3B Jose Cuas (’15, MIL): 14 G, .192/.288/.250 with 7 RBI, 7 BB and 10 R for the Helena Brewers (Pioneer League)
LHP Alex Robinson (’15, MIN): 2 poor outings, 1 dominant one (The Bad: 4 ER in 1.1 IP; The Good: 6 batters faced, 6 strikeouts) for the Elizabethton Twins (Appalachian League)
LHP Jake Drossner (’15, MIL): 3 G, 1 S, 3 ER over 6 IP (4.50 ERA); last outing: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K for the Helena Brewers
