Despite a series win this past weekend against previously 23-ranked Cal St. Fullerton, the Terps remain unranked across all polls. Maryland has not been ranked this season. However, the Terps did receive two votes in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. Other notables receiving votes in the poll include non-conference opponents Alabama (49, leading vote-getter), ECU (30), Bryant (10) and Cal St. Fullerton (9). Future Big Ten opponents Michigan State (27) and Michigan (13) received votes as well.
Maryland (9-10), does have opponents that have cracked the top 25 in other polls. ECU remains ranked in the D1baseball.com poll, coming in at 19th. Cal St. Fullerton dropped out of D1baseball’s Top 25, and Alabama was considered as well. The NCBWA rankings are similar, ranking Fullerton 27th, with many of the Terps’ non-conference opponents receiving votes.
The Terps play four games this week. The first is a mid-week game against Liberty on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Then, Maryland travels to the University of Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes and kick off conference play. The Terps went 2-2 overall on their West Coast road trip, but won the last two games, taking a two-game winning streak into the week.
