Maryland (25-21, 10-8 Big 10) dropped two of three games to Illinois in College Park, Maryland last weekend, but will look to bounce back against West Virginia (27-19, 11-9 Big 12) Tuesday night and make up ground in the Big 10 standings against Rutgers (23-25, 6-12 Big 10) this weekend.
West Virginia is ranked 95 in RPI, while Rutgers is ranked 79 in RPI.
The Terps sit in eighth place in the Big 10 as the conference tournament in Omaha, Nebraska approaches (May 25-29). The team has a realistic shot of finishing fourth place in the conference standings if they end the regular season strong against Rutgers and Michigan State (31-12, 11-6).
The Terps travel to East Lansing, Michigan from May 19-21 to play the final three games of the regular season against Michigan State. The Spartans are ranked 50 in RPI, but received votes in USA Today’s Coaches Poll and in Baseball America’s top-25 poll.
