Maryland baseball is set to take on Georgetown on Tuesday. It’ll be the second of two matchups between the teams in 2026. Maryland charges into this matchup off a series loss against Michigan State, having been outscored 25-5 in their last two games.
The Terps’ first of three games in East Lansing was a back-and-forth offensive battle, each team fighting for a decisive scoring run. Leading 12-9 heading into the eighth inning, the Terps would outscore the Spartans 6-1 in the inning, eventually taking home an 18-10 victory to open the series.
However, the next two games would be very different, with the Terps losing 12-4 and 13-1 respectively, struggling to find any windows of opportunity.
The Dirty Terps will look to change their momentum in their rematch against Georgetown. Maryland first played the Hoyas in their first home matchup of the 2026 season, which it resoundingly won 16-3.
The game was tied 2-2 after four innings, but the Terps proceeded to break it open, scoring nine runs in the fifth inning alone to put it out of reach. It was the first chance for home fans to get a glimpse of the Terps’ offensive potential, and we may see it shine again in the rematch.
Georgetown Hoyas (22-22, 4-8 Big East)
Last Season
The Hoyas had a season to forget in 2025. They only managed three conference wins and a 16-40 overall record, falling short of the Big East Tournament. Despite their lackluster campaign, they managed to win multiple games against the Terps for the first time in over 20 years.
Their first matchup of 2025 was hotly contested, with the Terps and Hoyas tied at seven runs after six innings. Maryland would put it away with five runs scored in the seventh, followed by a two-run homer from Aden Hill to put a bow on a 14-7 win.
The seventh-inning burst would break the other way in the teams’ second meeting of the season. Georgetown was clinging to a 6-5 lead after a tightly contested match when Jeremy Sheffield launched a grand slam deep to right field that the Terps couldn’t fight back from, losing 11-7.
The Hoyas would again rely on power hitting to take the rubber match against Maryland three weeks later. They would hit two home runs in the first inning and would take a 7-3 lead early in the game. Despite the Terps’ own late-game offensive surge, including a three-run bomb from Hollis Porter, they would lose 11-8.
This Season
Since their first match against Maryland, the Hoyas have had an up and down campaign. Georgetown enters this midweek with a 22-22 record including some standout victories, most notably a two-game sweep of Penn State in March.
Following their first game against the Terps, Georgetown rattled off 12 wins in their next 15 games. But they’ve since cooled off and their conference record is currently below .500, 12 games into their Big East schedule.
The Hoyas enter this match coming off a rough series loss against UConn, in which Georgetown gave up 14 and 22 runs in the first two games, respectively, before being swept.
