Maryland defeated the No. 1 overall seed last night, beating UCLA on their home field, 4-1. Here were the highlights:
UCLA Win Notes:
Maryland won their fifth consecutive NCAA Regional contest and are now one win away from their second straight Regional Championship.
Kevin Mooney is now 9-for-9 in postseason save opportunities. He has earned a save in all five postseason wins of 2015.
The Terrapins pitching staff has allowed 11 earned runs in the last nine games.
Mooney, Bobby Ruse and Rob Galligan have all pitched on back-to-back days. They’ve combined to throw 10 and two thirds innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits.
“They’re strike throwers,” acting head coach Jim Belanger said. “You trust those guys to go in and throw strikes all the time and throw multiple pitches for strikes. Whenever you’re in situations when you’re getting some guys in early in those middle innings, that’s what you need.”

Maryland will play the winner of UCLA and Cal State Bakersfield tonight at 11pm ET. Ryan Selmer will get the start for the Terps and try and send them to their second straight Super Regionals.
“I just think we prepare all year for the postseason, from the way we do our scouting reports to the way we practice,” Belanger said. “Everything we do is to prepare for the postseason, and once we get to the postseason, nothing changes.
