Wade, Martir make pro debuts, two others receive assignments

The 2015 Maryland draft class continues to take shape, as four Terps appeared on Minor League rosters for the first time on Tuesday.

Both Minnesota draft picks, LaMonte Wade and Alex Robinson, were assigned to the Twins’ rookie affiliate, the Elizabethton Twins. Wade batted sixth and played centerfield on Opening Day, going 2-for-4 with a triple, run, walk and 2 RBI in a 9-5 win over Bluefield (TOR). FULL BOX SCORE


Kevin Martir (HOU) also debuted in the Appalachian League on Tuesday, playing for the Greeneville Astros (TN). He recorded an RBI while batting third and catching in a 7-6 win over Bristol (PIT). FULL BOX SCORE

Zach Morris was assigned to the Gulf Coast League Phillies and will play at Philadelphia’s Spring Training complex in Clearwater, FL.

Jose Cuas (MIL) was the first 2015 Maryland player to debut in the Minors, and has gone 6-for-19 (.316) with 4 RBI and 3 walks for Rookie-league Helena (MT) thus far.

Kevin Mooney (WSH) and Jake Drossner (MIL) have signed with their respective teams and should begin their pro careers soon.

Brandon Lowe (TB) is still negotiating with the Tampa Bay Rays and has until July 17 to strike a deal. If he doesn’t, he will return to College Park in 2016.

In full season ball, Jake Stinnett (CHC) turned in his best start of the year for Single-A South Bend on Thursday. The former second round pick did not allow an earned run over a career-high six innings, striking out four and only allowing one hit.
