About John: John Murphy appeared in eight games as a freshman in 2016, striking out 10 in 11 innings. Six of those appearances came out of the bullpen but in the Cal Ripken League last summer he started all seven games he pitched and averaged nearly five innings per start. He attended Gloucester Catholic High School (Gloucester City, N.J.) with former Terps pitcher Mike Shawaryn, and Murphy holds the school wins record with 28 victories in four seasons. He was named first-team All-South Jersey twice, All-State second team once, and helped lead Gloucester Catholic to two state championships.
