Maryland baseball’s season hasn’t gone as expected. Despite a strong offense, the Terps haven’t been able to pull out wins and post a 24-28 record.
Maryland added a last-minute, third midweek matchup with Georgetown in the final week of the season. Midweeks have been an opportunity to soften the record — the Terps are 10-3 in those contests.
A plethora of injuries have caused trouble within Big Ten play. Maryland sits at 7-20 in conference. The Terps still have just one series win after dropping their three-game stint with Rutgers this past weekend.
Maryland is eliminated from Big Ten tournament contention and will play for pride throughout its final week. Completing the season sweep on the Hoyas would be a step in that direction.
Georgetown Hoyas (26-26, 7-11 Big East)
Last season
Georgetown’s 2025 season was one it likely looks to erase. Its 16-40 season record included just three conference wins. The Hoyas strung together four different series of five or more game losing streaks, its longest coming in at seven straight defeats.
Georgetown faced Maryland for a hat trick of games during that season. It visited College Park for the first matchup, taking a commanding 14-7 defeat.
But the Hoyas would upset the Terps in their next visit to campus, posting 11 runs on as many hits to hand Maryland and starting pitcher Logan Hastings a loss. The Terps visited Georgetown at Capital One Park for the final game and were ousted by the home team. The 11-8 loss broke a six-game losing streak for the Hoyas.
This season
Georgetown sits at exactly .500 on the season. The Hoyas have struggled within Big East play, posting a 7-11 record, but won their last weekend series against Creighton on the road.
While it got the win, Georgetown’s offense faltered in the series as it didn’t surpass five runs in any of the three contests. It’ll have to produce at a higher level or excel on the defense against Maryland. The Dirty Terps’ 422 runs this season rank second-most in the Big Ten.
Maryland has already met with Georgetown twice this year, winning both games by a combined score of 27-5. The Hoyas have gone 4-3 since their last meeting with the Terps on April 28, exactly two weeks before their final matchup.
Hitters to Watch
Connor Peek and Jeremy Sheffield have been Georgetown’s stars at the plate in 2026. Both have surpassed 200 at-bats for the Hoyas.
Peek’s .340 batting average and .935 OPS are both team highs. The 5-foot-10 starter is consistent with 70 hits, but has also proven he can hit for power when needed, with six homers. The graduate student remains a threat when he reaches the basepath with 16 stolen bases on 18 attempts this year.
Sheffield is batting .323, but his 45 RBIs slightly surpass Peek’s 43. A senior, Sheffield only has one hit against Maryland this year, but is a proven threat at the plate across the entire season.
Fans should also keep an eye on if Ashton Seymore makes Tuesday’s lineup. The sophomore only has 98 plate appearances, but played in both games against Maryland and is batting .500 against the Terps this season. His .298 average at all isn’t as high as Peek and Sheffield, but his consistency against Maryland is worth noting.
Pitchers to Watch
Spencer Seid and Kai Leckszas are the Hoyas’ most utilzied this arms this year. They’ve combined for 133 innings this season, posting 3.98 and 4.30 ERAs, respectively.
But the Terps should be prepped to see anyone step on the mound or out of the bullpen. Ten different Hoyas pitchers have recorded 20 or more innings htis year, and the team regularly uses seven to eight pitchers a game.
Probable Pitchers
Nic Morlang vs. Andrew Moy
Other Notable Points
Brayden Martin is looking to write his name in the Maryland record books this week. The junior’s 138 all-time walks is a tie with former Terp Luke Shliger’s record for most in Maryland history. Just one base on balls against the Hoyas would put Martin all alone at the top of the Terps’ all-time walks list.
